We had a wonderful opportunity for family time during a few short days in Michigan last week. We were also able to see & fellowship with some dear friends, J & Kirby, one late night & early morning. These relationships truly bless our hearts. Short & Sweet Utah Trip 02/09/2011
Port Alsworth received a good amount of snow with low ceilings Wednesday, so our plans of leaving for Anchorage that night were halted. Thursday morning was snow covered & beautiful. After sweeping the wings, plowing the runway, and warming the engine, we took off inbound for Anchorage in Joel's C-206. At Merrill Field CJ & I grabbed our Subaru & drove to King Ranch with a lunch stop for calzones at our favorite place in Palmer. We met friends at Dwayne's ranch & discussed this years Bible camp over strong coffee. Our main purpose of the trip to King Ranch was to take Dwayne up on his offer to borrow an airplane for the rest of winter, rent free. We are excited for the opportunity to use the C-182 we flew in Texas, that was later donated to Kingdom Air Corp. Please pray with us for wisdom on how to responsibly use this airplane not only as a convenient grocery getter & transportation to town, but also as a tool for God's kingdom in the villages. Later that afternoon, I got a head start back to Anchorage in the Subie & CJ took off on Dwayne's snow covered grass strip with the C-182. We met back at Merrill Field where we tied down the airplane for the weekend. We spent Thursday afternoon running errands & catching up with an old friend, Dan over pie at the diner. Our commercial flight to Salt Lake City, Utah took off at 1:00am Friday morning & with the time zone change during flight, Mike picked us up in Utah just in time for morning coffee. We spent our time in Park City with CJ's parents, Mike & Pam & with his younger brother, Jordan. I found this trip to Park City different than the previous ones. This year I was most excited about seeing people, socializing, taking hot showers, walking downtown, the hot tub, fire place & going out to eat. I guess winter in bush Alaska changes my view of vacation fun. Not so with CJ. He ripped up the slopes on skis instead of his snowboard) for the first time in 12 years. We made it to Anchorage early Monday morning without a hitch & crashed on Mark's couch for a few hours before our day of doctor appointments & grocery shopping. We filled the back of the C-182 with bulk food from Costco & flew together through snowy Lake Clark Pass back home. Airplane, vacation, fruit, family... a wonderful weekend away!
