We survived Ike. We live rather far from the Texas coast, but the hurricane did travel right over us on Saturday. We discovered 3 leaks in the ceiling & a very leaky living room window. I suppose the house just can’t handle continual sideways rain. Not too bad considering the circumstances. We actually never lost power; when we arrived at church on Sunday, we appeared to be the minority in that area. Our good friends, Josh & Maggie Sleigh, arrived late Sunday night after braving the storm at their house in Houston. Their water was starting to turn nasty & they figured it would be a while before their power came back. We are excited about the excuse for a visit! I tease Josh about how it took a hurricane to get them to come see us, but hey…  I’ll take what I can get. They brought their two dogs & we are enjoying the evenings together. Tonight we are off to their favorite Mexican restaurant in Longview. I love company!

CJ & I have decided to start the application process to a missionary organization. It is a big step for us & was a long & hard decision making process to find the right fit for our calling & talents. We are in contact with AIM Air, a Christian organization based out of Nairobi, Kenya. According to the representatives we have met with, the application process takes at least 2 years. There are lots of papers to be filled out, psychological tests, doctrinal statement comparisons, practical mechanic tests, practical flight tests, lots of training, & then support raising. The missionary organization “African Inland Mission” has to approve us, then we apply for an AIM Air position. We are particularly excited about the opportunity to be missionaries first, & use our pilot/mechanic skills as a tool to reach & care for people. This has been a long time coming & we are so excited to have Africa begin to move into our sight, if the Lord wills.
